Glamis Court, Townsville
Securing repeat business is one of the most rewarding ways to build a reputation – and Grant Painters is proud to have done just that.
Over the past two years, the team has started and completed five major projects between Mackay and Townsville at sites we first worked on years ago – many of them requiring a high level of expertise in site access.
These projects include:
- Portsea Apartments at Hale Street, Townsville involving rust treatments, waterproofing and repairs to building cracks while navigating inclines exceeding 15 degrees in some areas – with one driveway shared between 18 apartments
- Townsville Central State School
- A full exterior repaint of the eight-storey Admiralty Towers, Mackay containing 16 luxury apartments
- A full exterior and 90-room interior repaint of Rydges Mackay Suites, with the hotel operating at 80 per cent occupancy throughout
- Sugar Australia maintenance works including protective coatings for the massive six-foot round pipe “galleries” at the mill’s port site in Mackay

Challenging site, spectacular outlook: Glamis Court
Although not a repeat project, Glamis Court in Castle Hill, Townsville – our latest completed job – shared many of the complex access and site management challenges seen in our other recent works.
Perched on a steep hillside, this three-townhouse complex required careful planning and the use of spider lifts and scaffolding to navigate the sloping terrain safely and efficiently.
The photos reveal the access issues.
The project was completed however over seven weeks by our Townsville team, who worked amidst what might be one of the most scenic locations we’ve ever encountered.
As townhouse owner Karla Malouf remarked: “I don’t think anyone would complain about the view here.”
On top of the world: The astonishing outlook from one of the decks at Glamis Court.
Refurbishing the deck: The crew hard at work.
Tricky terrain: While the work itself was straightforward, overcoming access issues demanded experience.
The challenges and solutions
While straightforward in scope, access proved difficult in several areas. The team overcame this using a combination of spider lifts and scaffolding to ensure safe and efficient coverage.
More than 300 litres of paint were applied to the exterior, carefully colour-matched to the existing hues. This included 150 litres of a three-coat epoxy metal system in Colorbond Ironstone, chosen for its durability and finish.
Preparation was key – over 1000 hours of labour went into grinding back flaking metal paintwork to achieve a mirror-like surface, rivalling the original powder-coated finish.

Finishing touches
To complete the project, the decks were refreshed with Dulux Reddy Brown, restoring warmth and richness to the timber surfaces. The team took full advantage of the views while they worked – a well-earned reward for precision and perseverance.
Glamis Court stands as a testament to Grant Painters’ commitment to quality, long-term client relationships, and excellence in every detail — no matter how steep the climb.
According to Geoff and Karla Malouf, the result showcased solid craftsmanship and genuine pride in the work.
“The Townsville team is a great group of young people,” says Karla. “They were all lovely to deal with.”
“They were very easy to work with – nothing was ever too much trouble whenever something needed attention,” says Geoff.
